Leigh MP Andy Burnham came in to college to speak to SJR staff and Politics students about life as an MP and his plans for the upcoming Manchester Mayoral Election. Andy answered a wide range of challenging questions from an enthusiastic audience.

Questions ranged from current local political events and Brexit to the importance of the UK Armed Forces and the factors which had inspired him to become a Member of Parliament. The visit was also timed to fit in with the students’ studies for the AS level Government and Politics exam which features questions on the role of front and backbench MPs, alongside the current pressures facing parliament and government.

Andy was invited to speak at the college by Gemma Thomason, who leads the College Politics Society.
