St John Rigby College has been crowned Sixth Form College of the Year at The Educate North Awards, in association with The Telegraph.
The prestigious award was presented at a ceremony held at Manchester’s Hilton Hotel, Deansgate. SJR was up against northern England’s finest sixth form colleges, so it was amazing to hear host and multi-award-winning broadcaster, Rob Mcloughlin OBE, announce St John Rigby College as the overall winner.
To rapturous applause and cheers, Principal Peter McGhee took to the stage to receive the trophy. Peter gave an inspirational acceptance speech, attributing this success to a fabulous group of staff and exceptional students. He described students and staff inspiring each other to be the very best that they can be.
Following on from the publication of the Ofsted report, there is no doubt that April has been an "Outstanding" month for St John Rigby College!
Peter McGhee further commented, “To be crowned Sixth Form College of the Year for the whole of the North of England is a well-deserved and proud achievement for our college community. SJR is a special place for students to study and achieve and we continue to go from strength to strength. It is particularly good news for the young people of Wigan that the award has stayed in the Borough. To take the title from Winstanley College shows the progress made over recent years at SJR, progress which the Educate judging panel declared themselves to be “in awe”, culminating in our Outstanding Ofsted Inspection Report and the title of SIXTH FORM COLLEGE OF THE YEAR!”
