Ian Lenagan with some of the students

Ian Lenagan, business entrepreneur, theatre producer, owner of Wigan Warriors and Chairman of the Football League visited SJR to speak to our Future Entrepreneurs, Business students and Sport students about nurturing a culture of success to obtain a winning formula.

Students were provided with a fascinating insight into Ian’s personal journey from a working class background in Scholes to becoming a multi-millionaire sports, theatre and IT business owner.  Ian told students that the “sky is the limit to what they can achieve,” and that the secret of success is hard work, tenacity and endeavour.  Ian also shared stories of how talent can take you only so far and that effort, hard-work and self-belief are the essential traits shared by those who have the greatest success.

Principal Peter McGhee said “This is the second time that Ian has been into college to meet with students.  A culture of excellence, team work and ambition summarises our work here at SJR.  These are values that we share with Ian and his companies.  SJR students and staff work together to create a supportive environment where achievement is shared and celebrated.”

Ian’s visit is part of series of talks arranged for our Future Entrepreneurs and Future Leaders over the coming weeks.  The SJR Future Entrepreneur elective is aimed at those students who have a strong interest in business.  In addition to guest speakers and entering the Tenner Challenge, Future Entrepreneur students participate in a young enterprise project creating their own business and designing and marketing their own product.  Ian’s inspiring and thought provoking presentation will certainly help them along the way.
