The Future Writers Elective group and some other keen writers from the English department welcomed published performance poet Jacob Sam La-Rose to college and greatly enjoyed a poetry workshop that he delivered. As well as participating in some brilliant writing exercises, the students were given a personal performance of some of Jacob’s own work and he also talked them through his creative processes and answered some questions on his writing.
The workshop was awarded to the College following Jess Mason’s amazing victory in the national “Poetry By Heart” competition earlier this year and Jess was among the students participating in the workshop. She said: “The afternoon was really fun and beneficial. It made poetry seem fun and engaging. It inspired me to try and write more poetry and I am so thankful to Jacob for coming in!”
English teacher Toby Lynch said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students, and one that they embraced whole-heartedly. Jacob was hugely impressed both with our students’ contributions and what we are doing here in college to encourage and engage those with a love of language and creativity.”
