Media Studies A level students recently visited Media City in Salford to take a tour around the BBC studios and gain an insight into how media products are produced.

The students embarked on a lively tour where they took to the microphones to create a radio drama, sat on the famous red sofa of BBC Breakfast to report the news and saw first-hand the magic of green screen to present the weather.

There were sneak peeks at studios with live radio broadcasts, real journalists at work preparing news programmes for the day and explanations of how all the equipment works together to provide us with seamless TV shows. Students even managed to do a bit of celebrity spotting, getting a wave from Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin Webster on Coronation Street.

Media Studies tutor Catherine Morrison said: “The tour was lively and engaging, giving students the opportunity to see some of the things that go on behind the scenes and it has also show them that there are many different career opportunities in the media. Hopefully, it will have inspired some; we clearly have some budding presenters!”
