A group of SJR English students enjoyed a writing workshop with award-winning playwright Lizzie Nunnery in the iconic setting of Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre.

They wrote their own monologue while sitting on the unique theatre-in-the-round stage area, sharing the space that such famous names as Maxine Peake, Pete Postlethwaite and Helen Mirren have performed upon, while also learning about the excellent writing opportunities available to young people in the North West and beyond.

English tutor Toby Lynch said: “This was a great opportunity for our students – one day they’ll be able to look down on that stage from the audience and think ‘I was there!’ We’ll definitely be back to do this again in the future: it was an extraordinary chance to learn from someone who makes a great living following their dream – something all our students should aspire to.”
