As part of our Elective Programme, SJR’s Future Entrepreneurs have been battling it out with students from The Deanery and Leeds City College in The Allied Finance Challenge.
The competition provides students with the opportunity to become Pension Fund Managers. It was a close competition throughout the challenge with only £10 between the winning teams on the final day. We had three teams in the running: ‘Wallstreet Wannabies’ secured first place, with ‘Stock Til U Drop’ in second place and ‘Risky Business’ in fourth place.
Business teacher Sarah Ryder from SJR said, “The Future Entrepreneurs have taken part in an exciting challenge this year which was closely fought throughout. This has been a great experience to add to their Elective course; they have developed a strong understanding of the highs and lows of investment.
“They not only learn about the markets but get invaluable mentoring about business itself from the Director of Allied Finance. We are incredibly proud of the way that our students engaged in the challenge and demonstrated real determination through challenging markets and high levels of competition.”
Director of Allied Finance, Nick Wylie added, “The students got a great understanding of how the world stock markets work and how risk and volatility can have a great impact on investments within the stock market.
“The students really engaged with the competition and their willingness to learn meant they produced some great investment returns in what were very difficult investment market conditions.”
