Dr Paul Campbell, a consultant clinical psychologist spoke to a packed audience of A Level students at SJR. In his role as Clinical Lead for Adult Primary Care Psychology (IAPT) of the Five Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Paul has responsibility for a wide range of psychiatric care.
Paul gave the students a fascinating insight into careers in psychology and mental health. He provided details of how a psychologist could work in a variety of specialist fields, such as clinical, counselling, occupational, sport, educational and teaching Psychology. Paul relayed a real understanding of the changing role of support for Mental Health. He explained how services are now becoming more accessible and provided an insight in SilverCloud, a safe and secure online space to help those experiencing mental or behavioural problems.
Paul stressed the importance of gaining registered status and shared his own experiences of voluntary work. He expressed the importance of voluntary work in preparation for university courses and described the importance of research projects when studying at postgraduate level. Students and staff left with a greater awareness and understanding of the roles played by a psychologist within the N.H.S
