BTEC Art and Design student Rhianne Hambleton represented the North West as they soared through the final of the Flying Scots volleyball competition. In addition, they have also attended the Inter-Regional Championships at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering; and international tournaments held in Italy.
During her first year at St Edmund Arrowsmith High School, Rhianne started to play volleyball for the school team and she never looked back. With the help of her coach, Jim Keating, Rhianne excelled in the local league with Wigan Seahawks, before going on to represent Salford in Division 3.
By the time she left school, the rising star was thriving with Tameside U16s in the National League. Her talent was recognised by North West Volleyball and she was chosen to represent the region at an international tournament in Scotland.
The North West Under-18s travelled to the University of St Andrews last month to compete against the biggest names in British volleyball. After fending off Northern Ireland, Northern East and Scotland West, the team beat Scotland East in the final to be crowned “The Flying Scots Champions 2018”.
The talented youngster who also represents England at U19 has shown real promise and continues to train hard alongside her studies.
