Smart Future for SJR Student
The Cardinal in college

Ben Thomas, Year 12 Business, Law and Maths student, formerly of Cansfield High School, has secured a highly sought after paid work experience placement with Ernst & Young, on the EY Foundation Smart Futures programme.

The application process to gain a place on the three week paid summer work experience programme is highly competitive and Ben is one of the lucky few selected from thousands of applicants across the North West.

Ben will be working at EY’s offices in a range of interactive sessions to advance his employability skills, such as networking, team building, brainstorming, leadership and presenting to an audience.

He has a fantastic opportunity to put his business skills into practice, working in teams to solve real life issues from the business world and presenting his findings to a panel of key individuals from a variety of influential organisations and industries.

Whilst on the programme, Ben will also learn more about the inner workings of various industries and gain an insight into the different aspects of business, such as marketing and recruitment, as well as attending seminars on entrepreneurship and setting up a business from scratch.
During the final week, Ben will be required to put his new found business acumen to the test, working with a team to gain hands on business experience, from pitching ideas to creating a marketing campaign or helping an entrepreneur with an existing business issue.

Ben will also be introduced to his EY Foundation mentor, who will provide continued support throughout his final year at St John Rigby College.

All staff at SJR would like to congratulate Ben on gaining a place on such a prestigious programme and look forward to hearing about his experiences.
