Year 13 Sports and Exercise Science student Sian Whiteley founded St John Rigby College’s cheerleading club last year and has worked extremely hard to make it a success. She has been the driving force behind promoting the club and applying for funding to continue its growth. She said “I’m really happy that so many people have taken part in the club. Hopefully, once we have proven there is enough interest, the funding will be ours to use on growing the club and getting our own kit.”
The College are fortunate to have the Head Coach of Hunters Cheerleading on board to lead the sessions, while Sian herself is currently in the process of training to become a cheerleading coach. She is working with the Hope School cheerleading squad to gain her qualification.
Outside her College and cheerleading commitments, Sian also volunteers as a coach in various sporting events throughout the local community and recently organised a charity fundraiser at SJR. She certainly keeps herself busy and is a true sporting superstar!
We wish the whole squad the best of luck in their efforts to secure funding and develop their skills in a fun and friendly sport.
Cheerleading is open to everyone Monday lunch times in the Drama Theatre – no experience required, come along and give it a try!
