Fourteen Level 3 Health and Social Care students and two staff flew to Paris to participate in Health and Social Care seminars and take the opportunity to visit the city and the Euro Disney theme parks.
After departing from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, the students and staff arrived at the resort by 10pm. After a quick room check, they all made their way to The Disney Village where McDonalds was the only restaurant open and they were served a French version of Fast Food.
After a good night’s sleep, the group made their way to the Gaumont Theatre for the first seminar on Disney’s customer service response to guests with additional needs. Following the seminar, students spent the afternoon visiting both of the theme parks, a new experience for many of the group.
On day two, everyone was up bright and early again to take the coach to Paris; travelling into the city, the group saw Monmatre and Sacre Coeur then parked by the Eiffel Tower. Several students took the lifts to the top of the tower to take in the spectacular views on a lovely sunny day. Some students used their time to take in the sights of the River Seine and the numerous souvenir shops, whilst others visited the Arc de Triomphe, the Trocadero Gardens and the Champs Elysées.
Everyone enjoyed the sights of Paris and returned exhausted to the hotel for their evening meal. Those who still had the energy left ventured out in the evening to watch the Disney Parade and firework display. Many made new friends from colleges across the UK.
On day three, the group once again visited the Gaumont Theatre and participated in a multimedia seminar on health and safety for Disney visitors, incorporating those guests with additional needs. Students were then invited to visit the Disney theme parks again to see the theory being put into practice. This activity was designed to assist in the students’ unit 3 tasks on Health, Safety and Security. Several students were also on a mission to get as many photos as they could with the Disney Characters. Finally, the group took the return coach to the airport and a flight back to Liverpool, exhausted but enriched by the whole experience.
