SJR staff and students have held a successful charity event, ‘Jeans for Genes Day,’ which is endorsed by many celebrities, including Keith Lemon and Colleen Rooney.
Students and staff at college wore their jeans to work to support a good cause, which contributes towards research into genetic conditions which affect over 300,000 children born each year.
Charity Coordinator, Vicky Melling said, “It’s great to see everybody joining in and donating. I am pleased to say we beat last year’s total and it is wonderful for something so simple to raise over £325!”
Principal Peter McGhee, who also donned denim for the day said, “We are helping the charity in their mission to raise awareness and promote understanding of what it means to be affected by a genetic disorder. In fact, one in twenty five children in the UK are affected in this way. Jeans for Genes does exceptional work by offering free educational resources to schools and we are pleased to support this cause in any way we can.”
