SJR student Mayumi Pachecho is making waves for the England U17s football team. Mayumi, whose club team is Liverpool Ladies FC has just returned from Cork, Ireland, where the 2nd Elite UEFA round was held. The squad managed to come away with two wins over Hungary and The Netherlands but lost to the hosts, Ireland. The final round will be played in Iceland and the first game will be against two-time winners Spain.
Former Our Lady Queen of Peace student Mayumi has already made a huge impression in her short footballing career, becoming Liverpool Ladies’ youngest ever player at 16 years old and winning last season’s Under 17s Players’ Player of the Year.
“It’s an honour to represent both my club and my country and I’m very lucky that I get to travel all over the world and play. I’d like to say a special thank you to St John Rigby College for supporting me with my A Levels whilst I also pursue my footballing career,” said Mayumi
Principal, Peter McGhee, said, “It is a pleasure to work with Mayumi as she achieves great things on and off the football pitch. She has an exceptionally positive attitude and applies herself wholeheartedly to everything that she does. St John Rigby College has successfully supported and continues to support a number of elite athletes who choose to study here.
“Our Performance and Excellence Academy is a perfect way of providing those who want to pursue a career in sport with the qualifications they need and a flexible timetable for their dedicated training. This is just one of the many ways in which we seek to fulfill our mission of valuing and meeting the needs of individual students, celebrating learning and raising aspirations.”
