Students on SJR’s Music Maestro Elective Programme staged a fantastic evening of musical performances and raised over £220 for Macmillan and Cancer Research.
The event was organised by Year 12 Music student Rhiannan Wheeler, as part of her Maestro project in Concert Management. She spoke to the audience about her tutors’ initial incredulous reactions to her ambitious plans to put on such a large-scale event, who were full of praise to see the evening play out in such a professional and enjoyable manner.
There were acts to suit all musical tastes, ranging from piano and flute ensembles, to covers of Rihanna and Black Sabbath. David Wall, who teaches the Maestro Programme said, “The one word that describes our department perfectly is eclectic and I wouldn’t have it any other way!” He went on to express his admiration of Rhiannan’s efforts, as well as congratulating all of the performers who received rapturous applause and standing ovations throughout the evening.
We look forward to seeing what else our Music department have in store for the remainder of the academic year and are sure to see Rhiannan’s concert management skills flourish after a thoroughly successful first event!
