SJR staff and students have raised over £500 on this year’s Red Nose Day. All week, the college held their infamous staff versus student ‘challenges,’ including eating jelly with chopsticks, how many marshmallows you can fit in your mouth, how many doughnuts you can eat in one minute and how many chocolate buttons you can stick on your face!
Some students were willing to go the extra mile for the cause. A Level students and members of the Student Council, Nathan Holland and Tom Pearson, offered to have their legs waxed by some ruthless fellow students and everybody flocked to the theatre to see them in a world of pain!
Other activities included a cake sale organised by Health and Social Care students, live performances from Music and Performance students, bingo, red hair spraying and an SJR photo booth ,where students could use fancy dress and props to have a comical picture taken.
In a further bid to raise funds, Head of ICT John Sanders put together a special IT revision booklet which the students could make a voluntary donation to buy. This alone contributed £70 towards the total funds raised of over £500.
SJR tutor Vicky Melling, who organises this annual event with the Student Council said, “Events such as this enable the College to come together as a community whilst raising funds for a worthwhile cause. I’d like to thank everybody for their efforts and also wish to thank the businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes.”
