Rebecca Bryan, former Standish High School student currently in Y12 at SJR studying Graphics, Art, Photography and Media Studies has won a local competition to design an emblem which will become the official logo for Wigan Pride 2016.
Rebecca has been invited to the Wigan Pride launch event on May 17, where her design will be unveiled to the public and used in marketing materials to be circulated throughout the borough to promote the event set to take place on Saturday 13 August.
Rebecca’s logo was selected by the Pride Committee, made up of representatives from local organisations and young people from BYOU, Wigan’s youth action group for LGBTQ young people. Mayoress Susan Loudon will be meeting with Rebecca at the launch event. Rebecca said, “I will be presented with an award by the Mayoress at the launch event, which I’m both nervous and excited about!”
The inspiration for the design was drawn from iconic Wigan images, Rebecca explained, “I was inspired by Northern Soul badges and colour schemes related to Wigan Athletic and Wigan Council.” Rebecca initially entered the competition as part of her Extended Project on Graphic Design and is delighted to have her work recognised on such a public platform.
We will have to wait until May to see the end result of Rebecca’s creative talents, though we’re sure this is a firm step in the right direction towards her future career aspiration to become a Graphic Designer. All of the staff at SJR would like to congratulate Rebecca on her fantastic achievements and can’t wait to see her winning logo revealed next month!
