Wigan Warriors have been training on the St John Rigby College 3G pitch in preparation for their first game of the Super League against Widnes.
Students and staff came out to support the players, many of whom are former students of the College. One student, Sarina Tamou, who plays on the SJR Women’s Rugby League and Netball teams said, “It was nice for them all to stay behind and talk to their old teachers and have pictures with us. We are really big fans and it made our day. Nearly all the former SJR students were here - we were just missing Kris Radlinski!”
Current SJR students Craig Mullen and Macauley Davies both play for Wigan Warriors Under 19s and England Youth Academy, and they managed to catch up with Shaun Wane and the squad whilst they were at College. They both hope to make it to the Super League themselves and to be featured in the SJR Hall of Fame, alongside the likes of Sean O’Loughlin.
