SJR students have once again collaborated with local radio station Wish FM to take part in a highly successful Scholarship Day.
The 14 successful SJR applicants had the unique opportunity to create their own radio show and adverts, in roles such as Producer, Presenter, Weather Presenter, Traffic and Travel Presenter and News Reader.
The purpose of the Scholarship Programme is to give students the experience of a day in the Media Industry. For some students, such as Francesca Eagleton, it is an ambition to study Journalism at university. The group have been taught invaluable skills at Wish FM which they can use in their university applications.
Francesca was thrilled to be chosen for the Scholarship and said, "I enjoyed the challenge in my role of Presenter and I got to work alongside professional presenter Chris Milow. We also created our own advert. It was an amazing experience and I feel that SJR is really preparing me for future employment, especially in such a competitive industry as the media."
Media tutor Emma Cairns, who organised the Scholarship Programme for the students said, "The media industry has become extremely competitive and it is vital that our students gain practical skills in order to succeed. We now have the advantage of having BBC Media City in the North West, so we will hopefully see some of our talented St John Rigby students there in the near future."
