SJR Team Competes In First Boccia Tournament

We had a fantastic day at Eccles College, where three students (Holly Billington, Andrew Malone and Tom Gallagher) took part in the first AoC Boccia Tournament.
There were 16 teams from seven different colleges with a range of abilities. Tom and Andrew had never played the sport before but after a few warm up practices they were ready to go! We played four matches – winning three and losing one (on a tie break ) This meant we were winners of our group and into the semi-final to play against the Carmel 1 team.
Carmel took a 4-0 lead in the 1st end and despite some great shots we lost 5-4 in the end. Everyone played really well and what was really pleasing was that SJR students not only supported each other with positive comments and praise, but were also very sporting towards the opposition, congratulating them when they played a good shot or gently prompting them when it was their turn to throw. Our students were brilliant representatives of the college, and all wanted to know when the next tournament will be!

I had a great experience at SJR. I met a lovely bunch of people and made so many friends. I wouldn’t have achieved the grades I did without the tutor advice and support. Thank you.
