SJR ASPIRE Assemblies

Y12 and Y13 students who had demonstrated positive study habits across all their subject were in invited to a celebration assembly ASPIRE focuses on 6 of the key areas:: Attendance  Study Skills  Progress  Independence  Resilience  Employability  It was lovely to see all these students that are all positive role model for those around them. ASPIRE – is first introduced to students during Y12 induction via tutorial and subject lessons. Biology Careers: Microbiology

During careers week, our year 12 A level students took a break from the syllabus to look at skills involved in becoming a microbiologists. The students made smear slides of E.coli and B. subtilis and used the gram stain to identify which species of bacteria was gram positive and which was gram negative. They practiced their microscopy skills using oil immersion lenses to view the bacteria with some amazing results! Chaplaincy News

At the Pop-Up Chaplaincy event today there was free hot chocolate and the chance to pick up a positive quote. Students and staff alike were invited to put something they loved about themselves on a post it note. Stress reliving bubble wrap was also available to be pressed. It was a chance to sign post our students to the Religious Relic Tour that was visiting out college as well as promote well-being. Future Engineers trip to Heysham power station

SJR students enjoyed a fantastic tour of the magnificent Heysham nuclear power station. As you can see everyone looked amazing in their Hi-Vis safety attire. We took about an hour to get a good look at the turbines and the top of the nuclear reactor and the 1970s style control room of Heysham 2. The enthusiastic team gave us a talk about apprenticeships with EDF at Heysham and we discussed the percentage of each energy sector being used by the National Grid. Level 2 entry requirements

If you’re not quite ready to start on a Level 3 Technical course (T Levels) or a Vocational Level 3 course (BTEC) but want to begin on the path to your chosen career, the Transition Programme could be for you.  

Transition Programmes are tailored to prepare students to move onto Technical or Vocational Level 3 study. They will give you the opportunity to improve your English and Maths, your work readiness skills and introduce you to the technical skills and concepts that you will need for future study and employment. 

As part of the Transition Programme you will study a BTEC Level 2 Award in your chosen subject area as well as the BTEC Level 2 Extended Award in Work Skills. You will also have the opportunity to resit GCSE English and/or Maths if you have not yet achieved a grade 4. 

Entry criteria for Transition Programmes is four grade 3s including grade 3s in English Language and Maths GCSE.
