Geography students visited the Lancashire coastline this week which allowed them to develop fieldwork skills in preparation for their coursework. The Y12 Geographers studied sediment and pebble characteristics and the formation of the Lytham sand dunes as well as learning equations which calculated wave energy. In the afternoon, students analysed the coastal defence systems on Blackpool seafront to evaluate their effectiveness, conducting a range of research. As well as having a enjoyable day out, students are now confident about conducting their own research for their independent investigation.
