Jodrell Bank Trips

Jodrell Bank Trips

St John Rigby students get a very wide variety of visit experiences. Both History and Physics visited Jodrell bank because of its important role in the cold war, the space race and current research into the universes origins.

PHYSICS TRIP : Our students enjoyed a telescope workshop, films and the exhibitions at Jodrell Bank. Thanks to the team for a great day. They learnt about the maths behind parabolas that is is so important for understanding how to get a rocket where you want in space and they watched films about the universe.

HISTORY St John Rigby College took part in a Cold War source session with Manchester University at Jodrell Bank. They engage with two lectures from Dr. Thomas Allcock and Emma Tarasenko discussing how each superpower viewed the arms and space race. They were also given the opportunity to engage with primary sources looking into Jodrell Bank’s own past in Cold War assessing its role as both a scientific institution and centre for tracking Soviet progress in the space race for the USA.

SJR History and Physics department and staff would like to thank Jodrell Bank, Manchester University staff and Ambassadors for a great experiences our students have had in 2024 with them.
