SJR is 50 – Alumni Visit!

SJR is 50 – Alumni Visit!

In light of our 50th Year Anniversary celebrations St John Rigby College are inviting alumni back to college to aspire students.

Last week, Protective Services and Criminology students were delighted to welcome Merseyside Police Chief Constable (former SJR student) Serena Kennedy to college.

Chief Constable Kennedy spoke to students about her inspiring personal journey through her 28 years in Policing and her pride of being appointed as the first female Chief Constable at Merseyside Police in 2021. A number of other topics were covered included the role of Policing, preventative Policing  and the wider career options available within the service. Chief Constable Kennedy detailed the importance of community engagement, inclusion and crime prevention for the modern police force.

Students were given the opportunity to participate a Q&A at the end of the presentation. Police careers via degree or apprenticeship routes were discussed, as these are aspirational pathways for many of our students.

Gillian York, college councillor taught Chief Constable Kennedy for two years and surprised her by being sat on the front row throughout her talk!

Thank you so much for coming and delivering such an inspiring and motivational session.
