On Wednesday 8th February the Geography department took students on a one day visit to the former Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland. This was part of their involvement in Lessons from Auschwitz (LFA) Project that is run by the Holocaust Educational Trust.
Auschwitz-Birkenhau was the principle and most notorious of the concentration and extermination camps established by Nazi Germany to implement its Final Solution policy, which has as its aim the mass murder of the Jewish people in Europe. More than just a trip to Poland, the visit was a journey of learning and exploration – about the history of the Holocaust and about the world we live in.
