On Tuesday 13th June, St John Rigby College welcomed a guest speaker, Julia Mwaluke: Vice principle of UNISON; to speak to students as part of the annual Student Voice Conference: ‘Equal Grounds, Inclusive Voices, Real Impact’’. Julia brought a wealth of experience in advocacy, leadership, and social justice. This was followed by a ‘Peace Panel’ whereby students heard from a diverse panel of cultural and religious leaders – alongside SJR students – as they tackled injustice and explored what peace and inclusion meant to them.
Students were encouraged to start the conversations that challenge inequality of all forms, find their inner peace and look for hope. Students feedback included “The peace panel was definitely inspiring, and it was an insight into alternative viewpoints”, as well as “It was interesting to learn about different prospectives from individuals”.
In the afternoon, students were invited to share feedback on their college experience with the College Governors. They collaborated well in their groups and offered some extremely valuable contributions.
Here are some photos of the event. Thank you so much to all the organisers of this conference especially Juliana Allan and Michelle McGlown.
