St John Rigby College in Orrell proudly hosted its biggest ever Awards Evening, welcoming an exceptional turn-out of alumni, parents, friends, staff, and students for a memorable celebration of achievement and community.
Held at The Edge in Wigan, the evening was expertly hosted by David Broadbent, whose warmth and professionalism helped ensure the evening ran seamlessly.
Despite the frosty weather, the college had a fantastic attendance and vibrant atmosphere from the start to the end of the night.
The ceremony celebrated the achievements of last year’s leavers, giving them the opportunity to reconnect with staff and peers, reflect on their journeys, and celebrate successes that began during their time at SJR.
The ceremony featured special video cameos from Chris Kirkland, former goalkeeper for Wigan Athletic, Liverpool FC, and the England national team, alongside Ryan Connor, an accomplished SJR alumnus and founder of the highly successful Voxy Media House.
Ryan has directed high-profile campaigns featuring Anthony Joshua and Coleen Rooney, and has partnered with global brands like Nike, Under Armour, and DAZN.
Parents highlighted the positive impact the college and its Awards Evening have had on their families, with one parent commenting:
“I am so proud that my son was here and part of this college family.”
Students also reflected on the lasting influence of their time at SJR. Award winner Georga shared:
“This college was the best place I could have gone to. They helped me so much, and I wouldn’t be where I am now without the college.”
“The effort the college puts into its students really shows. All the activities available demonstrate how much they care, even after students have left, which is really special,” said David Broadbent, host of the evening.
Mr Broadbent has also hosted major football events at Liverpool FC and Manchester United and worked extensively with high-profile athletes.
Award winner Ethan, who received two awards on the evening, said:
“It brings staff and students back together and lets you see familiar faces again. It’s been great.”
Huge congratulations were extended to all award winners, with the college celebrating not only academic success but also personal growth through and beyond the college.
