These buses are provided by St John Rigby College and operated by Olympia Travel and Orrell Minitravel, for students who either live outside Greater Manchester or in an area of Greater Manchester that is not covered by the TFGM Shared College services below.
· The SJR Private & Shared College Bus Timetables provides all the information you need to use our private services – These are the Red and Purple Timetables.
· Minor adjustments may be made following enrolment.
· Each timetable will indicate which bus pass is required. (SJR Bus Pass or Ourpass/Other)
· The cost for an SJR Bus Pass is £300 for the year 2026/2027 – we will contact you after enrolment with details of how to make this payment via parentpay.

· To register please complete this form SJR PRIVATE SERVICE – New Students Registration 2026-2027 – Fill in form or visit the Transport & Bursary Hub at enrolment.
These buses are provided by Transport for Greater Manchester (BeeNetwork) and are shared with Winstanley College.
· The SJR Private & Shared College Bus Timetables provides summarised schedules and routes (these are the Blue Timetables).
· Once you know the bus number, from 31st August you will be able to use this link – Bus timetables | Bee Network | Powered by TfGM to see the exact time the bus will be at your nearest bus stop. Don’t forget to download the BeeNetwork app for live updates.
· No registration is required for these services. You will need either an Ourpass / Student Bee Bus Ticket / payment on the bus (£2 each way).
· The Ourpass provides FREE transport on all Greater Manchester buses. Go to Homepage – Our Pass to apply.
· If you live just outside of Greater Manchester area, but would like to use these buses you now have a NEW option to purchase a Student Bee Bus Ticket – ‘Termly’ or ‘All Terms’ pass. Information & Guidance for using the College Buses
PLEASE NOTE – Timetable information may change throughout the year, any changes will be updated on our website and students will be informed of any changes throughout the year by text/email. If you have any queries relating to transport please email transport@sjr.ac.uk
For Public bus timetables please visit the relevant site to your area. There are buses available from various areas to either Wigan Town Centre, Shevington, Standish or Orrell Post (we are a 15-20 minute walk from Orrell Post). The 640 and 641 Beenetwork public services stop on our bus bay every hour and travel a circular route through Shevington, Standish and Wigan.

e.g. The 640 and 641 Public bus from Wigan Town Centre comes straight to St John Rigby College Bus Bay and is scheduled hourly until 5pm.

Travel by Train Gathurst Station is just a 10-15 minute walk from St John Rigby College. Please see www.trainline.co.uk for timetables and to see if trains run from your local station to Gathurst Station (not Orrell Station).

Walking everyday is beneficial to both your physical and mental well-being.
Thanks to funding received from Transport for Greater Manchester, and help from Sunbelt Rentals, SJR now have their very own bike library!
This works just like a book library – except with bikes. You can borrow a bike, free of charge, for any duration from a few days to a few months. This could help with your commute to college/work or just get out with friends at the weekend. The Bike Library is open to all SJR students and staff.

Parking on the student car park is available to Y13 students only.
Students must be dropped off or picked up in the right hand lane opposite the bus bay. Please note that dropping off or picking up is not allowed on the left side in the bus bay.
If you are collecting a student at the end of the college day, it is advised to aim to arrive after the first two bus phases have left (after 4:15pm) where possible.
There are a limited number of disability parking spaces at the front of the college.
Please note that unless the parent/carer/visitor is attending college for a visit/meeting, these spaces are only designated for picking up/dropping off students with a disability.
If you’re not quite ready to start on a Level 3 Technical course (T Levels) or a Vocational Level 3 course (BTEC) but want to begin on the path to your chosen career, the Transition Programme could be for you.
Transition Programmes are tailored to prepare students to move onto Technical or Vocational Level 3 study. They will give you the opportunity to improve your English and Maths, your work readiness skills and introduce you to the technical skills and concepts that you will need for future study and employment.
As part of the Transition Programme you will study a BTEC Level 2 Award in your chosen subject area as well as the BTEC Level 2 Extended Award in Work Skills. You will also have the opportunity to resit GCSE English and/or Maths if you have not yet achieved a grade 4.
Entry criteria for Transition Programmes is four grade 3s including grade 3s in English Language and Maths GCSE.
