Jo Platt, MP for Leigh and Atherton visits College

Jo visited St John Rigby College for the first time since her recent election. Peter McGhee commented “It was a pleasure to welcome Jo to our College and to show her around our campus. As is always the case, the most impressive and enjoyable part of the tour was seeing and speaking to our students. You have to experience the College in action and the community feel of SJR to appreciate what a special place it is, and I feel confident that a lasting impression will have been made on Jo by our exceptional young people.”

During the tour, Jo visited lessons in Science, Health & Social Care and Computing, all of which are GM Growth sectors for employment. She also met students from the Music Industry and Future Lawyers Career Academies and representatives from the Amnesty group. The tour concluded with a visit to A Level Government & Politics students, who enjoyed an honest and forthright exchange on government policies and worldwide political leadership. Jo engaged openly and naturally with our young people, including those who sought support for improving the region’s public transport service. We look forward to maintaining a link with her and our other local MP’s, engaging them in the things that impact on our young people and their education.

I loved our Geography trips to Sweden and Berlin. I learnt so much more about my subjects and the countries.
