SJR Sport Goes International

One of Chester University’s three football teams from the University Degrees Abroad programme came to college to take on an SJR team. The UDA players were from a number of American states including California, New Mexico and others. It was an excellent competitive and cultural experience for all concerned with the match ending in a 0-0 draw.
UDA is an innovative programme that recruits American students to Chester University. These students follow a wide range of degree programmes, including Sports Science, Cyber Security, Criminology and Psychology. In addition to their degree studies, the undergraduates pass ‘trials’ in the USA to be a part of the UDA Soccer Academy based at Chester University. The academy is designed on a similar basis to professional clubs in this country, with training four evenings a week. The ‘older’ players participate in the NW Counties Under 23’s league, while younger players participate in a range of university leagues and cups and also in friendlies such as the SJR game.
