Travel by Bus
There are 3 main ways to travel by bus:
1. St John Rigby College Private Buses – An SJR bus pass is required.
2. Transport for Greater Manchester Buses (Commercial/Contracted) – An ‘Ourpass’ or payment on the bus is required. Please visit https://ourpass.co.uk/ for 16-18 bus passes.
3. Public Buses – A student pass relevant to the bus company e.g. an ‘Ourpass’ for Greater Manchester or Student Saver Pass for Arriva buses, or payment on the bus.

Timetable information may change throughout the year, any changes will be updated on our website and students will be informed of any changes throughout the year by text/email. If you have any queries relating to transport please email transport@sjr.ac.uk

Travel by Train
Gathurst Station is just a 10-15 minute walk from St John Rigby College. Please see www.trainline.co.uk for timetables and to see if trains run from your local station to Gathurst Station (not Orrell Station).
If you choose to travel by train, Transport for Greater Manchester offer a 16-19 Scholar’s pass which allows students to travel paying child fares, for more information please visit Scholar’s permit | Transport for Greater Manchester
Trainline also offer 50% travel for 16-17 year olds, for more information please visit 16-17 Saver (thetrainline.com)
Walk or Cycle
If you choose to cycle to college, there is an area designated for bicycles adjacent to the student car park. Please note this is not a secure area, therefore students using this area will be doing so at their own risk.
Travel by Car or Motorbike
Own car/motorbike – parking is available to Y13 students on the student car park. Parking spaces are limited, therefore parking is on a first come, first served basis and your car details must be registered at reception. If there are no spaces when you arrive at college, you must park in a legal, safe place which is respectful to our neighbours and please be mindful of traffic.
Drop off / pick up – Students must be dropped off or picked up on the Student Car Park. Please note that dropping off or picking up is not allowed in the bus bay. It is therefore advised that at the end of the day, you arrange a time to be collected when the car park is emptier e.g. after the buses have left the bus bay; after 4:15pm where possible.
Disability parking – There are a limited number of disability parking spaces. Please note that unless the parent/carer/visitor is attending college for a visit/meeting, these spaces are only designated for picking up/dropping off students with a disability.
