There is ample opportunity to take part in educational visits. Alongside this course you will have the opportunity to improve your GCSE grade in English or Mathematics.
This course is equivalent to 1 GCSE and is a one-year course.
To study a Level 2 programme you will have achieved a minimum of three grade 3s in your GCSEs, in addition to a grade 3 in English Language (please refer to the Entry Requirements section for further details).
Formal assessment will take place on completion of projects. There are seven units in total, two are externally set and the remaining five are internally set.
This seven unit course follows a very practical programme of study and will offer a sound understanding of Art and Design. Students will develop areas of 2D design, art history, photography, graphic design and creative IT. Progress is assessed by regular tutorials and ongoing assessment of assignment work and special projects. There is ample opportunity to take part in educational visits.
The BTEC First Certificate is ideal preparation for further study. Most students who achieve a Merit grade overall, could progress to an A level or BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Art and Design at the College. Alternatively students may enter related employment. Progression to Level 3 Courses at St John Rigby College is dependent upon meeting the entry requirement for that course.
Our Elective Programme is designed to help you develop your gifts and interests as part of an enhanced level 3 programme. We will help you realise your potential by nurturing your talent and preparing you for study at the most prestigious universities or for progression to competitive higher-level apprenticeships. Your options range from our Honours Programme, which might include following a fourth A level, to specialist Futures Programmes that will support your career goals.
