Course introduction

This course is equivalent to 2 GCSEs and is a one-year course. This course consists of seven units of Health and Social Care studies, which include Human Lifespan Development, Health and Social Care Values, Communication in Health and Social Care and also Individual Rights in Health and Social Care.

Introduction

The BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Health and Social Care relates to the National Occupational Standards in Health and Social Care and provides underpinning knowledge for these standards. The course enables learners to gain a clear insight into the Health and Social Care sector and therefore learners who successfully complete this qualification should be able to progress to employment in the sector in a supervised role. Students who have studied either course at high school will not be able to repeat the course in college.

Specific course entry requirements

To study a Level 2 programme you will have achieved a minimum of three grade 3s in your GCSEs, in addition to a grade 3 in English Language (please refer to the Entry Requirements section for further details).

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed through coursework which is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. There is also two examinations in Health and Social Care.

Where will this course lead me?

This courses enable progress to Level 3 courses in Health and Social Care or Child Care within College. Students may also take up employment within the care sector. This may be as a care assistant within the private sector, nursery assistant or health care assistant.

Progression to Level 3 Courses at St John Rigby College is dependent upon meeting the entry requirement for that course.
