SJR is 50 – Student Success!

SJR is 50 – Student Success!

As part of our 50 year celebrations we asked former students to get in touch and share their stories of success!

Beth joined St John Rigby College from St Edmund Arrowsmith.  On completion of her Physical Education, Business, Media A level studies in 2017 she went to study Business Management at London South Bank University. Beth loved her time at university trying hardest from day one to ensure that she would achieve the best grades.

During her time at university the strong work ethic she had shown and developed at college continued.  When the pandemic hit the UK in March 2020 she was forced to return back home where she completed her degree in June 2020.  During that period, like many of us, there was a lot of stress, uncertainty and numerous assignments to complete.  She pushed through with that same strong work ethic proudly achieving a first-class honours degree in Business Management.

From June 2020, she had the difficult task of finding a career; during one of the most challenging times.  There were few job vacancies and many were being furloughed.

Following many interviews, set-backs and heart breaking rejections, she began working freelance Planet Mark.  Her project was for the largest Zero Carbon Tours company in the UK and contributed to COP26. Planet Mark is a sustainability certification for all types of organisations. Their certification recognises continuous improvement and encourages action to tackle the climate crisis.

Beth is currently Certification Team Coordinator at Planet Mark; issuing businesses with their certification to show they are making a commitment to take action to tackle the climate crisis.

If you are a former student we want to hear from you! Please get in touch with claudia.ireland@sjr.ac.uk with your story and help inspire current St John Rigby students
