Holocaust Memorial Day 2025

Holocaust Memorial Day 2025

We were fortunate to welcome Harry Kessler to St John Rigby College on Friday 31st January 2025 and his testimony will remain a powerful reminder of the horrors so many experienced.

We are grateful to the Holocaust Educational Trust for co-ordinating the visit and we hope that by hearing Harry’s testimony, it will encourage our students to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust and make a positive difference in their own lives.

Year 12 History students Charlotte Smith and Emily Tomlinson welcomed Harry to college and listened intently to his story.

They commented that ‘It was an amazing opportunity to be able to meet Harry through the Holocaust Educational Trust and to have the privilege to hear his story first-hand. We found his journey through life and the lessons he had learned fascinating as well as moving and I am very thankful for the opportunity given by college to hear Harry share his testimony.’ His testimony will remain a powerful reminder of the horrors so many experienced.

The visit helped consolidate other learning experiences including the recent ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ project. Year 12 History students Hannah McCann, George Berry-Smith and Tom Mercer visited Auschwitz in October 2024 and arranged learning experiences for other students on their return.

We are grateful to the Holocaust Educational Trust for coordinating both visits and we hope that by continuing to learn lessons from these experiences, it will encourage our students to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust and make a positive difference in their own lives.
