This course is aimed at students who are seeking employment in the business sector, often via the steppingstone of higher apprenticeships or University. This course is exciting and challenging and allows students to gain a good understanding of business whilst also studying another A level alongside it. You will complete 8 units over the two years, some of which are assessed through examination and some through coursework. This qualification has been approved by a number of professional bodies including CIPD, CIPS and CMI.
College entry to include GCSE Mathematics grade 5 or above (please refer to the Entry Requirements section for further details).
The course is assessed by a combination of coursework and examinations. You will complete 8 units over the two years. 5 Units will be assessed by completing coursework. 3 Units will be assessed by examinations.
This is a two year course and is equivalent to 2 A levels. The diploma gives students the flexibility to develop their knowledge and understanding of business whist studying an additional A level alongside it. There are 8 units that will be studied, 6 of these are mandatory units that have been designed to give students a broad overview of business and business theory.
Units covered include; exploring business, developing a marketing campaign, personal and business finance, managing an event, international business and principles of management. Two units are optional and have been selected to build students skills as well as capitalise on staff specialisms. These units can include; recruitment and selection, digital marketing and customer service. You will have the opportunity to complete assignments based on real business scenarios and will be assessed through coursework, external examinations and controlled assessment.
Please note, you need to be very well organised and enjoy spending time working through a range of individual tasks outside of college as around 60% of your qualification will be assessed through coursework.
The BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Business Studies is suitable for those students who are seriously considering a career in this area, are passionate about the subject or wish to progress to study business at university.
This course provides you with a wide range of career opportunities, including setting up your own business, working in management, accounting, banking, marketing and retail management. This course also prepares you for further study at degree level in related areas such as marketing, finance, business management and accounting.

Our Elective Programme is designed to help you develop your gifts and interests as part of an enhanced level 3 programme. We will help you realise your potential by nurturing your talent and preparing you for study at the most prestigious universities or for progression to competitive higher-level apprenticeships. Your options range from our Honours Programme, which might include following a fourth A level, to specialist Futures Programmes that will support your career goals.
If you’re not quite ready to start on a Level 3 Technical course (T Levels) or a Vocational Level 3 course (BTEC) but want to begin on the path to your chosen career, the Transition Programme could be for you.
Transition Programmes are tailored to prepare students to move onto Technical or Vocational Level 3 study. They will give you the opportunity to improve your English and Maths, your work readiness skills and introduce you to the technical skills and concepts that you will need for future study and employment.
As part of the Transition Programme you will study a BTEC Level 2 Award in your chosen subject area as well as the BTEC Level 2 Extended Award in Work Skills. You will also have the opportunity to resit GCSE English and/or Maths if you have not yet achieved a grade 4.
Entry criteria for Transition Programmes is four grade 3s including grade 3s in English Language and Maths GCSE.
