David studied at SJR 96’ -98’ in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science and went on to study a B.Eng in Civil Engineering at Liverpool John Moores University from 98’ to 2001. After graduating David took his first job, almost immediately, in a small civil engineering practice in Stockport and decided to specialise in Structural Engineering. After 2 years in Atkinson Peck, he joined a much larger firm in the summer of 2003. It was based in the centre of Manchester and called Shepherd Gilmour. This was a much larger company with over 150 employees, a faster paced environment working on big developments not only in the centre of Manchester, but up and down the country. He was given the opportunity to take on much bigger projects and responsibility and was promoted to Associate Director aged 26. In 2007 the company had been awarded a project in Dubai. Despite never having been to Dubai, David understood nowhere else in the world was building structures like they were and put himself forward for a two year contract to help open the companies first branch overseas. 14 years later, David is happily still working for Shepherd Gilmour in Dubai and has had the pleasure of designing some of Dubai’s iconic structures, working with some of the worlds leading architects and designers. He is now an ASG and proudly runs the company with over 100 employees in Dubai and Saudi. He has still kept his desire to learn and study, recently completing an MBA at Cardiff University (online).
“My journey started with SJR, it was the solid foundation along a path filled with hard work, some good luck and real passion and love for my job. Education and knowledge opens doors at any level of your career, for me it started with my A’levels and keeps going. “
