Pathway to success

Teaching is much more than just a career – it is a vocation which impacts on the lives of the pupils and students within your care. We all remember our favourite teacher whether it be the one who inspired us to take their subject further into Higher Education, the teacher who always made learning fun or the one who was always available when needing someone to talk to.

Everyday in the classroom is different even though there is routine and structure within the school day.  Your pupils will surprise and challenge you whilst you will be supported by more experienced practitioners as you build your career and move through from classroom teacher to Head of Department and beyond if you should so wish.

This pathway is for those students who wish to embark on a degree in teaching after college or who wish to enter the teaching profession as a graduate having completed a first degree in their chosen specialism. This pathway provides and opportunity to learn some of the skills required in teaching whilst completing a programme of teacher observation and work placement.

Level 2 entry requirements

If you’re not quite ready to start on a Level 3 Technical course (T Levels) or a Vocational Level 3 course (BTEC) but want to begin on the path to your chosen career, the Transition Programme could be for you.

Transition Programmes are tailored to prepare students to move onto Technical or Vocational Level 3 study. They will give you the opportunity to improve your English and Maths, your work readiness skills and introduce you to the technical skills and concepts that you will need for future study and employment.

As part of the Transition Programme you will study a BTEC Level 2 Award in your chosen subject area as well as the BTEC Level 2 Extended Award in Work Skills. You will also have the opportunity to resit GCSE English and/or Maths if you have not yet achieved a grade 4.

Entry criteria for Transition Programmes is four grade 3s including grade 3s in English Language and Maths GCSE.
